Kenwood began in 1946 as Kasuga Radio in Nagano, Japan, and later traded as Trio. The Kenwood name was created as an export brand in the early 1960s, and the whole company took the name in 1986. It merged with JVC in 2008. Kenwood launched the KR-x600 receivers in spring 1976 with six models from the KR-2600 to the KR-7600, and the KR-9600 was added above them later that year. Our catalog covers the KR-6600 (rated 56–60 W depending on the source), the 80 W KR-7600 and the 160 W KR-9600, plus the KA-9100 integrated amplifier from 1977–1979. Kenwood promoted separate power supplies for each channel as the key selling point of these amplifiers. The KA-9100 went further, with three supplies and a DC-coupled power stage. Kenwood’s FM tuner sections from this period are well regarded. The service work is typical for the era: dial and meter lamps, dirty pots and switches, protection relays, aging capacitors, and checking bias and DC offset on the larger amplifiers.
