The story
The 2325 is a 125 W per channel receiver that Marantz introduced around 1974 at a list price of $799.95, and it stayed in the line until about 1976 or 1977. Its distinguishing feature is a built-in Dolby noise-reduction system. The Dolby selector has Dolby FM, Play, Off, Record I and Record II positions, so the receiver can decode Dolby FM broadcasts and work with tape recordings, including listening to a decoded broadcast while sending the encoded signal to a tape deck. Two meters sit on the front panel: a signal-strength meter for FM and AM that also serves for Dolby level calibration, and a combined center-tuning and multipath meter for FM. It also has bass, mid and treble controls, high and low filters, loudness and pre-out/main-in jacks, and weighs about 49.5 lb. It suits buyers who want a high-power mid-1970s Marantz with a tape-friendly feature set and who are prepared for a heavier, more involved restoration than the smaller 22xx receivers need.
Before you buy
The pre-purchase checklist
Checklist · 6 checks
- 01Ask whether the Dolby section works in every selector position, since it is the model’s main extra and adds circuitry that can fail.
- 02Confirm both meters move and light, including the multipath function on FM.
- 03Listen for crackle on the selectors, tone controls and switches, and expect contact cleaning on any unserviced unit.
- 04Ask whether the power-supply capacitors have been replaced and whether bias and DC offset were set after any repair.
- 05Be cautious with black-faceplate examples, because at least some are reproductions and a factory black 2325 has not been confirmed.
- 06At nearly 50 lb, ask exactly how it will be packed, since heavy receivers shipped in a single thin box often arrive damaged.

Which one to buy
115 Marantz 2325s are listed, only three for parts, and most complete ones ask $2,900–4,175 delivered. The spread is wide because restored units ask $4,100–4,400, while a serviced one sits at about $2,805, under the band. Prioritise a stated service and ask whether the built-in Dolby section works in every selector position, since it is this model's main extra. Red flags: $180–250 shipping on unserviced units priced like restored ones, and a 97.7% seller on one of the restored units; also confirm how a 49.5 lb receiver will be double boxed.

Most 2325s need their controls and switches cleaned, and many need dial or meter lamps. Contact cleaner is the first thing to buy; leave internal adjustments and recapping to the service manual or a technician.
