The story
The G-7700 belongs to Sansui’s G-x700 receivers of about 1979 to 1982, which Sansui sold as “Pure Power DC” receivers built around its DD/DC (Diamond Differential DC) amplifier circuit, promoted for low transient intermodulation distortion. Sansui rated it at 120 W per channel into 8 Ω at 0.025% THD, and it weighs about 40 lb. The tuner is a quartz-locked design with a digital frequency readout alongside a conventional analog dial, so it combines the look of a classic dial receiver with locked, drift-free FM tuning. The front is brushed aluminium in a wood cabinet. In the range it sat in the upper middle, below the G-9700. It suits someone who wants a single-box receiver with genuinely high power for less efficient speakers. Because it combines analog and digital tuning electronics with a high-power direct-coupled amplifier, it is a more complex receiver to repair than the dial-only Sansui models of a few years earlier, so service history matters.
Before you buy
The pre-purchase checklist
Checklist · 6 checks
- 01Confirm the digital frequency display reads correctly on FM and AM, since a stuck or garbled readout is a known fault even when the analog dial still tunes.
- 02Check that the quartz lock engages and holds a station without drifting.
- 03Ask for the DC offset at each speaker output and whether the protection relay engages cleanly, because a direct-coupled amplifier passes any offset straight to the speakers.
- 04Work all controls and switches for crackle and dropouts.
- 05Ask whether the dial lamps and indicator LEDs all light.
- 06At about 40 lb, it needs double boxing for shipping.

Which one to buy
92 results come up for the G-7700, and the complete receivers split into two groups: five at about $1,434–2,200 delivered, and three from one seller, technogold (97.7%), at about $3,520–3,661, which stretch the 'typical' $1,625–3,575 band. Prefer a serviced unit, and ask that the digital frequency display reads correctly, the quartz lock holds a station, and the DC offset is low, since the amp is direct-coupled. The serviced, cleaned unit at about $1,434 with Best Offer is both the cheapest and the low-risk buy. There is no reason to pay technogold's prices, and two of its listings share one photo and price (one with a French title), so ask which unit you would get and confirm it runs on 120V.

Most G-7700s need their controls and switches cleaned, and many need dial or meter lamps. Contact cleaner is the first thing to buy; leave internal adjustments and recapping to the service manual or a technician.
