The story
The 1090 is a 45 W per channel integrated amplifier, labelled by Marantz as a stereo console amplifier, introduced around 1977 and sold until about 1980. It belongs to the later-1970s generation that includes receivers such as the 2238B, rather than to the early-1970s era of the 1060 and 2230. It is rated at 45 W per channel into 8 Ω at 0.1% THD and weighs about 21 lb. The feature set is aimed at record and tape users: two phono inputs, two tape monitor loops with a dubbing selector, a mono switch and pre-out/main-in jacks. The faceplate is brushed aluminum with turned aluminum knobs, and a walnut-veneer WC-110 case was offered as an option. With no tuner section it is smaller and lighter than a receiver of similar power, and it suits a turntable-centered system or a buyer pairing it with a separate tuner, CD player or streamer.
